Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and television in addition to on stage, is most well-known for portraying Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney featured in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Contractor who was born in Mumbai and resided in Nigeria for seven years had a wide range of trips and experiences in the world of culture at an early age. She attended boarding school in London between the ages of seven and nine years of age, and then her family moved into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor achieved academic success throughout her time in Toronto and also trained as the ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a school of the arts that focuses on dance and theater. Contractor decided to take acting seriously at age 16 after almost 10 year of dance. She received a full-scholarship grant to attend the University of Toronto after graduating. There she earned her master's in theatre, and also double-majored in social and psychology. Contractor with a degree in sociology, having spent a year in university, went on to audition in an open audition for Pericles which was held at the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canada] and won the part. The show she played in 92 performances earned praise from Canadian reviewers. The actress accepted an invitation to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course where only four men and eight women can take the 20-week crash program in classical theatre.
